Carnegie Science Center: Planetarium, Cinema, & Exhibits

Situated in downtown Pittsburgh's North Shore, the Carnegie Science Center features four stories filled with hundreds of hands-on activities for every age. Experience life in a space station in SpacePlace or play a round of basketball against a robot in Roboworld, the world's largest robotics exhibit. Take the kids to see the world-renowned Miniature Railroad & Village or stargaze at the Buhl Planetarium. Hop aboard the USS Requin, a real Cold War-era submarine moored in the Ohio River. Watch a 3D movie on the biggest screen in Pittsburgh at Rangos Giant Screen Theater or experience a live science show from the chemistry of cooking to the basics of biology. Open daily from 10 am to 5 pm. They are closed for Steelers home games with 1 and 4 pm kickoff times.

  • Does Carnegie Science Center have parking?

    Yes, the Carnegie Science Center has a general lot for guests at $5 per vehicle during each visit. Discounted visitor rates do not apply when parking for a special event or participating in another activity nearby. Guests must have their tickets validated at the Science Center or Cinema for the reduced rates. 
  • When is the Carnegie Science Center free day?

    The Carnegie Science Center has a free Science Day on Sunday, Aug. 14, from 10 am- 5 pm. Visitors can explore hundreds of hands-on exhibits free of charge, courtesy of the Jack Buncher Foundation. Additionally, members of the military receive half-price general admission tickets for up to three people, with a valid Military ID.
